Los Angeles School District is the 2nd largest school district in the country. There are 891 schools, servicing 617,798 students. Of the 891 schools, there are 518 elementary schools, 126 middle schools, 127 high schools, 19 special education schools and 101 other types of schools. The total area is 710 square miles. The special education division of LAUSD has a number of committees designed to assist parents with questions or concerns they have regarding their child.
- Community Advisory Committee (CAC): The committee consists of parents, professionals and community members, who support students with disabilities.
- Special Education Multicultural Advisory Committee (SEMAC): They host monthly training meetings to assist parents with areas of concern.
- Complaint Response Unit/Parent Resource Network (CRU/PRN): They help parents who have concerns regarding their child with a disability.
The Special Education Department has a large number of programs and services for students, once they are found eligible, to assist them in receiving Free Appropriate Public Education.
